What is Zarxio used for?
ZARXIO is used to reduce the risk of infection in patients with some tumors who are receiving strong chemotherapy that may cause severe neutropenia with fever.
When is Neupogen indicated?
NEUPOGEN is indicated for reducing the time to neutrophil recovery and the duration of fever, following induction or consolidation chemotherapy treatment of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) [see Clinical Studies (14.2)].
What defines neutropenia?
A condition in which there is a lower-than-normal number of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) in the blood.
When do you administer ZARXIO?
Administer the first dose of ZARXIO at least 24 hours after cytotoxic chemotherapy and at least 24 hours after bone marrow infusion. Monitor CBCs and platelet counts frequently following marrow transplantation.
How often is Zarxio given?
The recommended starting dosage of ZARXIO is 5 mcg/kg/day‚ administered as a single daily injection by subcutaneous injection‚ by short intravenous infusion (15 to 30 minutes)‚ or by continuous intravenous infusion.
What kind of drug is Zarxio?
ZARXIO is a man-made form of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) called filgrastim. G-CSF is a natural substance produced by the body. The purpose of G-CSF is to stimulate the growth of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that is important in the body’s fight against infection.
What are the side effects of Zarxio?
Common side effects may include:
- fever, cough, trouble breathing;
- nosebleeds;
- bone pain, muscle or joint pain;
- diarrhea;
- headache;
- numbness; or.
- rash, thinning hair.
What WBC count is neutropenia?
Neutrophils are an important type of white blood cell, vital for fighting off pathogens, particularly bacterial infections. In adults, a count of 1,500 neutrophils per microliter of blood or less is considered to be neutropenia, with any count below 500 per microliter of blood regarded as a severe case.
What is Zarxio used to treat?
Zarxio is indicated for chronic administration to reduce the incidence and duration of sequelae of neutropenia (e.g.‚ fever‚ infections‚ oropharyngeal ulcers) in symptomatic patients with congenital neutropenia‚ cyclic neutropenia‚ or idiopathic neutropenia [see Clinical Studies ( 14.5 )].
Zarxio may cause serious side effects, including: Spleen rupture. Your spleen may become enlarged and can rupture. A ruptured spleen can cause death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have pain in the left upper stomach (abdomen) area or your left shoulder.
What are the contraindications for Zarxio?
Permanently discontinue ZARXIO in patients with serious allergic reactions. ZARXIO is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious allergic reactions to human granulocyte colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim or pegfilgrastim products.
Can Zarxio be given subcutaneously?
Your healthcare provider may decide that subcutaneous injections can be given at home by you or your caregiver. If ZARXIO is given at home, see the detailed Instructions for Use within the Prescribing Information on how to prepare and inject a dose of ZARXIO.
